Detailed Natural White Jade Pixiu - Mother Beast with Cub

Detailed Natural White Jade Pixiu - Mother Beast with Cub

$450.00

A remarkable antique Pixiu (also known as Pi Yao) with detailed carving. This pure white jade statue is a mythical animal from Chinese culture and is a lucky symbol for wealth, good fortune and protection. White jade is also believed to have a calming and soothing effect on the body, promoting peace, harmony and tranquility - something we all need these days! Pixiu appear to have their origin in the Han dynasty (206 BC–220 AD) where they are found mentioned and were originally called Táo bá in chapter 96 of the Book of Han. However, this one is a bit younger and is deemed to have been carved toward the end of the Qing Dynasty (late 1800’s - early 1900’s). In excellent condition.
